In 2012, the United Nations dedicated October 11th as the International Day of the Girl to promote girls' empowerment and bring awareness to the human rights that still aren't granted to all girls everywhere.
As educators, we believe that every child deserves respect, enrichment, and equality. We strive to make the female characters in our stories great role models, in the hope that our young audience sees themselves on the page and feels enabled to claim chess as their own, special, self-actualizing pursuit (not just a pastime for men and boys).
Today, find a moment to celebrate the young ladies in your life; play a game of chess, ask questions, tell stories, and honor the girls who represent our future.
