Chess at Three Statement on In-Home Lessons - June 2020

Hello Chess at Three Parents and Tutors,We in the home office of Chess at Three hope everyone is well and staying safe. We are thankful for everyone continuing to be a part of our Chess at Three Family. As you know for over a decade we have been servicing New York City parents and students with the best tutors in your homes. Due to the pandemic and shelter-in-place as of March 13th, 2020, we’ve been unable to provide lessons in anyone’s home. We have successfully transitioned our lessons to our online service. As restrictions on the shelter-in-place mandate loosen in New York City we have read all the state's guidelines, discussed and consulted, and we would like to address if Chess at Three will be resuming in-home lessons. We are technically considered an essential business with an educational service status. We understand we are not on the same level as healthcare and public safety workers. Our conclusion is that we are leaving it up to the parent and the tutor to decide what they are most comfortable with when it comes to in-home lessons. If a tutor is ready and able to visit a home, they need to make a decision about what is safest for themselves personally and for their multiple clients. Each parent must anticipate and consider that their tutor might be visiting several homes in a day. But, there are some very strong cautionary measures that can be taken to have lessons conducted in someone’s home such as wearing masks or even face shields, washing hands, and sanitizing the board and pieces. We've arranged guidelines and required safety measures that the tutor and parent need to uphold if both parties choose to move forward with in-home lessons. We have chosen not to open our club in the UES. Running multiple group lessons throughout the day with multiple families and multiple tutors is not something we feel comfortable with. But we are open to having in-home lessons in our Hamptons market. We have four tutors that stay out there full time each year for all of July and August and will be going to people's homes for in-home lessons as long as they abide by the state guidelines and our company protocol. Our goal as a company and educational family is to keep everyone as safe as possible and to offer fun engaging stories to all of our students in the best way we can. If you have any further questions or if you would like to read our company safety requirements please feel free to to inquire. Thank you so much.Chess at Three
